Attack of the Giant Horchata!

September 12, 2006 at 8:52 am (Life, my existence)

So each thursday, the guys on my floor (usually ending up with 8-10 of us) go out to eat & otherwise be social. 2 weeks ago (I know, late post, but I just remembered the pic) we went to this mexican place in Louisville, off of shelbyville rd.

So everyone is being their respective ‘white’ selves & ordering ’sweet tea’ and ‘water’ & fa-jeet-aahs, I look at the drinks at the last minute & get a little too over excited & say, “un horchata GRANDE!!”

Now, this pic from my cell may not be so useful for comparison, but while I expected only a ‘regular large’ glass like everyone else, the waiter comes back out with this gigundo 32 oz glass mug!! (yes, that’s 1 full nalgene bottle FILLED with rice-milk…mmmm…) & it was only a dollar more than the regular size drinks– even WITH a refill!! Yes, THAT my friends was also a very happy day!!

You should have included something in the picture for scale, like maybe a one-dollar bill. That would have been helpful. ;)

Carmen- yeah there’s better(real) mexican food in Chicago than here in Louisville. Debatably as ‘real’ as Mexico itself(since behind every good restaurant in chicago is a mexican!)

Mike- thanks for the props! When is an american company like Kraft or Minute Maid gonna start sellin’ it in the grocery stores/pop cans?!

You can get the powder-y mix at Wal*mart. I hate that place but it is convenient. I would check your local mexican restaurant. I know that there is one on Bardstown Rd. that has it… When you head towards the highlands from Southern, take a left (like you were going to Ear X-tacy) and look on your left. I haven’t been there in 8 months or so (I moved back to Idaho) but it’s there. I promise.
